This Week in Wall Street History: November 2 - 8

While government offices and the banks closed to the public, the NYSE decided to keep the floor open starting in 1984. And the floors have stayed open since.

On November 6, 1984, the New York Stock Exchange decided to keep its doors open on a presidential election day for the first time in 193 years.

This move didn't sit too well with traders, who responded to the news with a chorus of boos and hisses. Fortunately, the Dow did manage to post a fifteen-point gain on the day.
