Buy: Einstein
Peter Siegel, President of Gotta Have It! Collectibles, the leading high-end memorabilia gallery in New York, has one word for you: Einstein. Einstein was a prolific writer, and in his later years corresponded with almost anyone who took the time to write to him. For example, I recently purchased a letter written by Einstein to a person seeking information on torpedoes. Einstein wrote that he didn’t know enough about torpedoes to go into detail. In addition to letters that contain nuggets of insight into Einstein’s opinions or character, Einstein also wrote many short, simple letters thanking someone for interest in his work, for example, or simply acknowledging receipt of a letter.  Simple letters like this not containing important content but simply signed by Einstein on his Princeton letterhead were selling for $800-$1,000 three years ago. They’re now commanding $2,000-$2,500, a significant increase in value.
There are few icons of the twentieth century more recognizable than Einstein. Whether you’re a true connoisseur or merely a casual collector, having framed Einstein memorabilia on your wall makes a dramatic statement.
